Mary Berg, MD Recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for Excellence in Operations Management

    AURORA, COLORADO, October 8, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ --Mary Berg, MD, Medical Director of Transfusion Services and Associate Professor of Pathology for the University of Colorado, has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in operations management.

Dr. Berg specializes in the management of the University of Colorado Hospital blood bank, which encompasses transfusion services for a tertiary care academic medical center. She is also considered by her professional peers to be an expert in medical education. In her current capacity as the medical director of transfusion services at a leading academic medical center, Dr. Berg oversees activities of the blood donor center, transfusion service, perioperative blood salvage program, and stem cell apheresis program and ensures that regulatory requirements are being met. She is also in charge of maintaining appropriate blood inventory for solid organ and stem cell transplant, trauma, high-risk obstetric and burn patients, as well as for patients undergoing emergent and elective surgery.

She became involved in her profession because the field of pathology offers a wide range of opportunities within the health care sector. Dr. Berg earned an MD from the Medical College of Wisconsin, and completed an internship at Evanston Hospital. She went on to complete a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology and fellowship in blood banking and transfusion medicine at University Hospitals of Cleveland, and to earn Board Certification in anatomic and clinical pathology, as well as Board Certification in blood banking and transfusion medicine. She is an active member of the Colorado Association for Continuing Medical Laboratory Education, the South Central Association of Blood Banks, AABB, and the American Society for Clinical Pathology. She is also affiliated with the College of American Pathologists and The Phi Beta Kappa Society.
