Mary Puglia Recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for Excellence in the Field of Biological Sciences and Online Curriculum Development

    FLORENCE, ARIZONA, December 7, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Mary Puglia, Professor of Biological Science at Central Arizona College, has been recognized by Worldwide Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in her career.

Dr. Mary Puglia knew at an early age that she would enter the field of education. Now, after spending 20 years in the industry, she specializes in biological sciences as she instructs Central Arizona College students in online human anatomy & physiology and environmental science. Versatile, Dr. Puglia assists other adjunct instructors and colleagues with online curriculum development and delivery, and is completing the Quality Matters Peer Review Certification and Course Design. Dr. Puglia continues to participate in several studies with biological science faculty members from various institutions of higher education and publishers of textbooks in the development of high quality online teaching materials. Dr. Puglia attributes her success to her strong internal drive, perseverance and an interest in current knowledge and personal growth.

Dr. Puglia holds a Ph.D. in Microbiology, a Master's Degree in Science Curriculum and Instruction, and a Master's Degree in Food Biology, all from Arizona State University. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Microbiology at the University of Arizona. Dr. Puglia is affiliated with the American Society of Microbiology, and the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society.

Over the years, she has been the recipient of various awards including the Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching from Central Arizona College in 2001, the National Award for Teaching Excellence from the University of Texas in 2001 and the Templeton Science and Religion Course Award in 2000. In 2005, she served as a judge for the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair. Looking ahead, she plans to continue developing quality online science courses and utilizing her QM Peer Review training to assist instructors in order to establish a framework for online and/or hybrid delivery and to instruct them on how to maintain a centered and collaborative pedagogy for online delivery.

Outside of work, Dr. Puglia enjoys gardening, ceramics, photography and creating botanical art on paper or clay.
