With more than 40 years of professional experience, Dr. Trefry is a professor emerita with Sacred Heart University, having worked with the school as an assistant and then as an associate professor from 1998 to 2017. She has also worked as an associate professor and coordinator for Luxembourg MBA Programs with Sacred Heart's John F. Welch College of Business from 2006 to 2017. Prior to that, she was the principal of the Trefry Resource Group from 1983 to 2000, a public services coordinator with the Kansas City, Kansas Public Library from 1979 to 1982, and the branch manager of two different branches in the Fairfax County Public Library System from 1974 to 1979.
Dr. Trefry began her career at Agnes Scott College, obtaining a BA in French in 1969, before going on to earn an MLS in Library and Information Services from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1974. After gaining hands-on experience in the field, she earned a PhD in Organizational Psychology from Columbia University in 1991.
As an esteemed educator, Dr. Trefry is a member of various related organizations, including the Eastern Academy of Management and the Organizational Behavior Teaching Society. She has worked as a volunteer and Board Member at the Mercy Learning Center, which helps immigrant women learn English and advance their education so they can earn a high school equivalency degree and find work. In 2017, Sacred Heart University recognized her with a Global Engagement Award, and she has previously won the University Teaching Excellence award and the Bishop Walter J. Curtis Award. The Eastern Academy of Management awarded her and a colleague the Best Experiential Exercise honor.
