    CHARLESTON, WV October 19, 2008 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. MaryLou Lyon-Lewis, Clinical Ethicist and Palliative Care Physician at Charleston Area Medical Center Health System, Inc. has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in healthcare.

To become qualified for her current position Dr. Lyon-Lewis specialized in Internal Medicine and Nephrology with emphasis on diagnosis and management of Acute Renal Failure and Renal Transplant Medical Management. Currently as Clinical Ethicist in a large tertiary hospital she is a resource person to the Ethics Program and seeks to instantiate the program into all aspects of the institution. Her medical background began as a graduate of Emory University School of Medicine in 1965 with honors. She interned at New York Hospital-Cornell University followed by a Renal Physiology Fellowship in the Cornell University School of Medicine from 1966 to 1968. Her educational experiences continued at the University of California at San Francisco in internal medicine and clinical nephrology, completing her training in 1971. She then moved with her family to the Charleston area. Dr. Lyon-Lewis considers initiating the Renal Transplant Program and Ethics Program at her current hospital to be her greatest professional accomplishments and attributes her success to the education and support she received from her parents.

Dr. Lyon-Lewis earned her Master's Degree in Clinical Ethics from the University of Virginia in 2000. She also recently earned a certificate from the University of Notre Dame in Advanced Negotiations. She is member of the WV State Medical Society, the WV Network of Ethics Committees, the American Society of Humanity and Bioethics, and the Alpha Chi Omega Fraternity Alumna. She volunteers with the Charleston Ballet and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She looks forward to developing the ethics program further and having opportunities to work with patients.
