BOULDER, CO, July 09, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Employment growth for massage therapists is expected to be faster than average for all occupations with very good job prospects, particularly for those seeking part-time work, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics in the 2008-2009 Occupational Handbook. Boulder College of Massage Therapy (BCMT), a leader in massage therapy education, is responding to the increased interest in becoming a certified massage therapist by offering two programs, 12 and 18 months, for completion of a 1000-Hour Certificate in Massage Therapy Program.

The overall unemployment rate is 9.5 percent, according to a statement on Thursday, July 2, 2009, by Keith Hall, Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics. As a result of this high unemployment rate, many people are turning to part-time and self-employed work. A career in massage therapy offers the ability to work part-time or full-time, flexible hours and mean wage of $19.39 per hour.

"Our students come from around the world and many want to practice massage therapy as a secondary source of income," said Carol Brunelli, Director of Enrollment & Services at BCMT. "Each state in the U.S. requires a different number of hours for training for therapists, and 1000 hours is the maximum. BCMT's 1000-hour Certificate in Massage Therapy gives our students the flexibility to practice part-time or full-time anywhere in the U.S. and many places abroad."
