Maureen M. Fournier Honored by Marquis Who's Who for Excellence in Physical Education

Ms. Fournier served as president of her local chapter of the Illinois Federation of Teachers for many years



    OAK LAWN, IL, April 14, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Maureen Fournier has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ms. Fournier taught physical education at School District 126 in Alsip, Ill. for 35 years prior to her retirement in 2009. She began her career as a recreation leader for Alsip Park District in 1973. A member of the Illinois State Board of Education Task Force for Enhanced Physical Education, Ms. Fournier has always been passionate about providing excellent physical education to students. She is also involved with the Illinois Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, serving as an evaluator and chairman of its Blue Ribbon Committee.

In 1973, Ms. Fournier earned a Bachelor of Science in education from Northern Illinois University. She received a Master of Science in education from Chicago State University 10 years later. Throughout her career, Ms. Fournier remained current in her profession through affiliation with the Illinois Federation of Teachers. She has been an active member of the organization's Local 943 Alsip Council, serving as president from 1977 to 1983, 1985 to 1987, 1992 to 1997, and 2005 to 2008.

Ms. Fournier has been involved with a number of civic and community organizations as well. She was the manager of Oak Lawn Girls Softball from 1990 to 1991 and 1994 to 1998; she served as secretary of the organization in 1998 as well. She was a member of the internal review committee for School District 126 in Alsip from 1999 to 2006, and was an NCA Committee member and secretary of the Harold L. Richards High School Parent Boosters Club from 2000 to 2006. Ms. Fournier is a past member of the Richards Area Swim Club and a volunteer at Advocate Children's Hospital in Oak Lawn.

Now retired, Ms. Fournier has more time for her hobbies of bowling, swimming and reading. She also does consulting work for the Illinois Public Health Institute providing technical assistance to the physical education departments in school districts. Her accomplishments have been highlighted in the 5th through 8th editions of Who's Who in American Education, as well as several editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of American Women.
