May Leng Yau-Patterson Recognized for Excellence in Automobile Manufacturing

May Leng Yau-Patterson ensures the successful launch of a World Class Manufacturing logistics system in assembly, powertrain, stamping and service parts locations at Chrysler Group LLC



    AUBURN HILLS, MI, August 2, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- May Leng Yau-Patterson, Director of Logistics for Chrysler Group LLC, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in automobile manufacturing.

With more than 25 years of experience, Ms. Yau-Patterson specializes in lean manufacturing and lean supply chain management. In her position with Chrysler LLC, she is responsible for developing supply chain strategies, along with standards and methodologies to ensure proper operational execution of a World Class Manufacturing Logistics system. She leads in the development of lean supply chain solutions which includes the design and implementation of innovative parts handling and logistics flow methods to reduce internal plant material handling costs and external supply chain costs. This encompasses the entire supply chain from receiving inbound parts from suppliers to delivery to the production line and shipments of outbound finished engines, transmissions to assembly plants, and finished vehicles and service parts to dealers. As the leader for Logistics Center of Competence, Ms. Yau-Patterson's responsibility also spans into the development of best practices and providing coaching direction for operational implementation across Chrysler's 26 assembly, engine, transmission, component, stamping and vehicle assembly plants and MOPAR service parts distribution center locations located in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

Ms. Yau-Patterson implemented lean inventory and materials management tools to reduce working capital per vehicle by 25 percent. She contributed to the reduction of more than 25 percent in sequencing logistics costs per vehicle by working with key suppliers to optimize their operations using lean engineering tools and methods. She also optimized material handling techniques using lightweight and alternative materials to reduce investment by more than 45 percent for new programs. Furthermore, Ms. Yau-Patterson developed and implemented a container management system which reduced packaging costs per vehicle by more than 30 percent. She was the director of the advance supply and material handling core group in 2007, the director of manufacturing action process in 2004, and the senior manager of competitive benchmarking in 2002.

In recognition of her work, Ms. Yau-Patterson was named a Professional of the Year in Automobile Manufacturing in 2010 by Cambridge Who's Who. The same year, she was listed in Automotive News' 100 Leading Women feature. Ms. Yau-Patterson holds a master's degree in operations research and a bachelor's degree in systems analysis, both from the University of Miami.
