MUSKEGON, MI, February 22, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The West Michigan Symphony is inviting the community to a special "Meet the Musician" program on Wednesday, Feb. 29.

Jonathan Holden, the Symphony's principal clarinet, will provide a musical program followed by conversation at 7 p.m. at the Central United Methodist Church in Muskegon. The Leap Day event, which is free and open to the public, is one of an occasional series of community education programs sponsored by the Symphony.

"Our goal is to deepen our relationship with the community by inviting them into the world of our musicians," said Karen Vander Zanden, director of education and community outreach for WMS. "After a short performance, Jonathan will share some insights into his musical life. We will then move into a more casual setting that will allow the audience to ask questions and learn more about what it's like to be a professional musician and to perform with the Symphony.

"This will be an excellent opportunity for those who love classical music to meet and mingle with our musicians. We are planning a similar event in April and will provide more details in the coming weeks."

Holden will be accompanied by Kelly Estes, principal piano for WMS. The event is sponsored by Muskegon Community College. Refreshments will be served.
