After receiving her Bachelor's Degree in English Literature from Marymount University, Meghan went to work for ThinkBusiness Magazine (TBM); a publication geared towards small to medium-sized business decision makers in the Washington, D.C. metro area. During her time at TBM, Meghan planned and hosted bi-monthly networking events, assisted in the monthly publication's editing, wrote business profiles, created "best of" sections, and authored multiple cover stories.
Writing has not only been a professional endeavor for Ms. Totten, but personal as well. Over the last 6 years she has created and authored a blog dedicated to art, poetry, books and music, Meghan has also hosted local poetry readings, performed her own works and has been a contributing writer for the national organization Women For One.
Meghan joined the Totten Communications team after working in the legal field, specifically focused on criminal defense, and in the tax industry at PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP. Her prior work allowed Ms. Totten to develop writing skills, administrative and management ability, computer and Internet knowledge, along with corporate event planning and
hosting. Since joining Totten Communications, Meghan has also been working with One Love Massive, LLC (a D.C. based event management company), as the Director of Business Affairs, helping them to develop their company structure regarding employees, payroll, accounting, legal contracts and taxes. To do this, she has researched all local laws regarding public events, operational permits and liability insurance. Moreover, Ms. Totten establishes operational guidelines that govern company finances, employee conduct and confidentially, as well as the range of client services provided by the firm. OLM relies on Meghan to lead the development of a future business plan that focuses on the firm's evolving departmental structure.
Meghan decided to join Totten Communications after realizing she wanted her work to have a social impact. Ms. Totten credits her father as a strong positive influence throughout her career, helping shape the woman she is today.
An essay written by Meghan, "What Voting Means to Me," was published in The Washington Post. She has also been a contributing author for the national organization Women for One. Looking toward the future, Ms. Totten intends to expand Totten Communications' professional network to include work with a number of organizations and groups that have an ultimate goal of bettering the world, using public policy and media campaigns to gain awareness, support and knowledge for their specific causes.
