Reading is Ms. Collins' passion, and a love she was able to pass on to students through over 25 years of teaching in the state of Tennessee. She dedicated most of her professional career to elementary school students in Nashville, Tennessee, and was additionally recognized as a skilled, certified legal secretary. Ms. Collins is now a reading intervention instructor with Cane Ridge Elementary in nearby Antioch, Tennessee, where she continues to spread her love of the written word.
Born to William Daniel Hunt Junior and Betty Jean Hunt, Ms. Collins graduated with a B.S. from the University of Tennessee. She was later certified as a professional legal secretary. She joined the office of Joe Binkley Jr. in Nashville as a paralegal and a legal secretary for five years, and in 1990, was named Legal Secretary of the Year by Davidson County Legal Secretaries.
In 1992, Ms. Collins accepted a position with Mount Juliet Christian Academy as a kindergarten teacher. Kindergarteners, by and large, cannot read but Ms. Collins had most reading by Christmas break. Ms. Collins went on to Lord's Chapel Christian Academy in 1996 as a principal. She graduated with an M.Ed. in 1997 from Covenant College, Lookout Mountain, GA with a 3.89 G.P.A. In 1999, she joined Woodbine Christian Academy in Nashville as a teacher with the fifth grade, and in 2000, she was welcomed by Lighthouse Christian School as a first grade teacher. Two years later, she joined Metro Nashville Public Schools, and in 2015, Ms. Collins accepted her current role with Cane Ridge Elementary.
Ms. Collins is the recipient of the 2016 Walter Helm Service Award from the Tennessee Reading Association, where she serves with the middle Tennessee area as a district coordinator. She has been president of the Tennessee Reading Association and she currently serves as Secretary of the International Literary Association, Leader, Special Interest Group. In addition, she has supported the International Reading Association, the National Education Association, and the Metropolitan Nashville Education Association, where she served on the board of directors from 2005 to 2006.
Ms. Collins served the Cedars Club of Nashville as secretary from 2005 to 2006. She was selected for inclusion in two volumes of Who's Who of American Women from 2007 to 2009. Ms. Collins is married to Paul Vernon Collins Jr, and in her free time, she enjoys travel, and of course, reading.
