/24-7PressRelease/ - MANILA, PHILIPPINES, October 25, 2006 - A new study describes five men who went into acute urinary retention, were catheterized, and were told by their urologists that they must undergo surgery. All five men avoided surgery by undergoing repetitive prostatic massage combined with antibiotics and alpha-blockers.
During treatment, statistically significant improvements occurred in symptom scores, prostatic fluid white blood cell counts, prostatic fluid red blood cell counts, urinary white blood cell counts, and urinary red blood cell counts.
The paper, "Repetitive Prostatic Massage and Drug Therapy as an Alternative to Transurethral Resection of the Prostate" was published in Medscape General Medicine, a peer-reviewed, Medline indexed medical journal, available at http://www.MedGenMed.com.
The senior author of the study, Antonio Espinosa Feliciano, Jr., M.D. (www.Prostate.com.ph), has published several medical studies on repetitive prostatic massage and antibiotic therapy for chronic prostatitis and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). He is the Medical Director of the Manila Genitourinary Clinic and the Cebu Genitourinary Clinic.
