ATLANTA, GA, February 03, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Electronic Transactions Association (ETA) has released the names of 180 individuals who have earned the Certified Payments Professional (CPP) designation. The credential identifies merchant services representatives who have demonstrated a high level of knowledge and expertise in all facets of electronic payments.

Those who earned the credential passed a rigorous examination administered by an independent testing company under contract to ETA. The association created the program and the exam, assisted by a panel of payments industry experts. The names and company affiliations of the new CPPs are publicly available at http://www.electran.org/cppregistry.

"What this means for merchants is that for the first time, they can quickly and easily find a merchant services representative who has demonstrated knowledge and expertise, agreed to adhere to a code of ethical practices and shown a commitment to the payments profession through professional development and continuing education," according to ETA Interim CEO Pamela Furneaux.

More than 220 individuals in the US and Canada sat for the initial certification examination, administered in November 2011. To maintain the credential, CPPs will have to submit proof of 36 continuing education credits every three years.

The Certified Payments Professional credential is the standard for professional performance in the payments industry and a symbol of excellence. It signifies that an individual has demonstrated the knowledge and skills required to perform competently in today's complex electronic payments environment. The program recognizes that today's merchant service providers must have a broad knowledge of the industry and must demonstrate mastery not only of sales, but also pricing and interchange; business process, operations and workflow; products and solutions; risk; and regulatory, compliance and security matters.

For additional information about the Certified Payments Professional Program visit http://www.electran.org/cpp or contact ETA.
