Merial G. Taintor Honored by Cambridge Who's Who

Merial G. Taintor celebrates eight years as a teacher for Leon County Schools

TALLAHASSEE, FL, February 4, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Merial G. Taintor, Teacher for Leon County Schools, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in reading and music instruction.

Merial G. Taintor has 35 years of experience as a teacher for Leon County Schools. She is responsible for teaching reading, music, art, physical education, media and exceptional student education. Ms. Taintor attributes much of her success and vision to her mentor, nationally known Fay Kirkland, who started the head start program in Florida, Georgia, and Alabama. Ms. Taintor and her husband lived with Miss Kirkland for two years early in their career and her inspiration was invaluable. While she was at college, she was in charge of a music program. She was called into the office to meet Mr. Fred Rodgers who was impressed by the show and told her that 'The only star in the classroom is the child.' She became involved in her profession because of her family background in the education field, and she attributes her success to her family upbringing and her mentor, Fay Kirkland, and her mother, Merial Sale Graff, and father, Walter Graff, Sr.

Ms. Taintor received her Master of Education in Early Childhood Education from Florida State University and her Bachelor of Fine Arts with a Concentration in Music, Art and Drama from Bethany College. She is a member of the Florida Reading Association, The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Phi Delta Kappa International, the International Reading Association and the Kappa Delta Phi Education Fraternity. She is also Treasurer and Past President of Leon County Reading Council, Past President of Daughters of The King Prayer Group, and presently a member of The Daughters of the Holy Cross Prayer Group at St. Peter's Anglican Church, where she also sings in the choir, and has a bell choir of children. She has made vocal CDs, and is the proud mother of Merial Anne Frances Cooke, a graduate of FSU, manager in a dental office in Jacksonville, Florida, and wife of Brian Cooke.
