This all-inclusive creative platform with a price point under $40 provides all the tools necessary to create a true masterpiece of contemporary urban art. The kit includes a 12 by 12 inch canvas pre-printed with a choice of one of two background designs along with paintbrushes, paint, glitter, pens, and 15 street art stencils including the popular urban designs of sexy skulls, crowns, filigree and zebras as well as tips to "get fresh with the street art vibe".
The idea for MEYK (Made to Express Your Kinetics*) materialized a year ago in traffic on the 405 Freeway. "As professional artists/curators and gallery owners, we've heard far too often the phrases 'I could never do that' or 'all I can draw is a stick figure'. And thus was born the idea of creating an expressive platform to allow anyone to make a work of art and be proud of it," states the website. "It is our belief that through encouragement and guidance and given the necessary tools anyone can create a masterpiece," claim the Anderson Brothers who have both had shows in the US and Europe and are members of an established fine art family. In June 2009, Anderson Brothers released their fine art limited edition "Sexy Skull" in collaboration with Sex Wax founder, Mr. Zog (http://www.andersonartcollective.com/andersonbros..html).
And earlier this year, with their father, veteran fine artist Ron Anderson (http://www.ronandersonart.com), they opened Anderson Art Collective (http://www.andersonartcollective.com), a contemporary fine art galley.
A unique aspect of the Anderson Brothers enterprise is their commitment to global support of the arts. According to the website "One of the most important aspects of the MEYK endeavor is furthering the arts in the community and into the future. Our support of non-profits is how we do it. 5% of all sales from the Do It Yourself Street Art Kits will go to selected organizations around the world in support of the arts. With the Street Art Kit they also aim to bring kids off the street to make art, encouraging them to express themselves safely on canvas instead of on the street. Half of all sales for the month of October 2009 will go to inner city LA youth art programs and half to youth art programs in Santa Barbara.
