Dr. Schlosser has turned his expertise from law enforcement to academia to improve relations between law enforcement and minority communities

CHAMPAIGN, IL, November 01, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Michael D. Schlosser has been included in the Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Michael Schlosser is the Director of the University of Illinois Police Training Institute (PTI). He holds a Master's Degree in Public Administration from Governor's State University, a Master's Degree in Legal Studies from the University of Illinois, and a PhD in Education from the University of Illinois. He retired as a lieutenant from the Rantoul Police Department in 2004 to take a position as a Police Training Specialist with the University of Illinois Police Training Institute.

Dr. Schlosser's honors include Most Outstanding Recruit Officer by the Department of Law Enforcement Academy in 1984, Rantoul Police Officer of the Year in 1986, Rantoul Police Department Commendation for Community Involvement in 2000, Inductee in the Universal Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 2001, Rantoul Volunteer of the Year in 2003, Governor's Award for Excellence in Law Enforcement Training in 2004, American Society for Public Administration Model Administrator Award in 2013, and Inductee in the LeRoy High School Hall of Fame, 2016.

Dr. Schlosser is credited for his ground-breaking efforts toward police reform. Dr. Schlosser implemented additional innovative curriculum for improving the police practice that is not required by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board. These courses include Policing in a Multiracial Society, Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Questionable (LGBTQ) Ally Training, Understanding Victims of Sexual Assault, Police Officer Wellness, and Wrongful Convictions. Dr. Schlosser's vision and foresight of police reform, including these additional courses, were implemented pre-Ferguson. Post-Ferguson brought about many recommended and required courses for police training. The aforementioned courses, currently being offered by PTI, were all later recommended within President Obama's final report from the "President's Task Force on 21st Century Policing." These courses, combined with PTI's overall emphasis on non-escalation training, de-escalation training, and community policing, through intensive integrated scenario based training puts the Police Training Institute on the cutting edge of police reform and improving the police practice.

Dr. Schlosser, through the PTI, has been, and is currently involved in, numerous research projects at the University of Illinois with the various Colleges and Departments at the University of Illinois. These research project topics currently include: factors that increase and decrease police officer awareness in critical situations; policing in a multiracial society; mindfulness techniques to reduce stress for better situational awareness; digital forensics; reducing implicit bias through computer simulation training; and police use of force.

Dr. Schlosser has authored dozens of articles, made numerous radio and television appearances, and given over 100 presentations across the country on topics such as community policing, police tactics, police training, use of force, de-escalation techniques, control and arrest tactics, the intersection of police and race, diversity, police officer wellness, police family wellness, and various police related topics.
