Professor emeritus and the director emeritus of the Fetal Treatment Center at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), Dr. Harrison specializes in fetal surgery and has spent the past 20 years of his career studying life-threatening fetal abnormalities and utilizing cutting-edge techniques to repair several birth defects. In addition to performing early-stage surgeries, he has treated patients from birth through adolescence and helped improve their quality of life.

In addition to his teaching and clinical roles at UCSF, Dr. Harrison has been affiliated with Kaiser Permanente since 1983, and with California Pacific Medical Center since 1979. His research interests include minimally invasive surgery, developmental biology, and hematopoietic stem cells, which have been utilized in treating specific cancers and disorders of the immune system. As a pioneer of his field, he has developed innovative techniques for in-utero surgery and collaborated with team members on using stem cell transplantation to treat immunodeficiencies.

Dr. Harrison earned a BA from Yale University and an MD from Harvard Medical School. He completed residencies in surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital and held fellowships in pediatric surgery at Oslo University Hospital and Children's Hospital Los Angeles. He is certified through the American Board of Surgery and received special competence certification in pediatric surgery.
