    MONROVIA, CA, November 22, 2008 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Michael Karin, Professor of Pharmacology Tumor Growth Invasion & Metastasis at the University of California, San Diego will give the keynote address entitled "IL-6 and STAT3 are required for Survival of Intestinal Epithelial Cells and Development of Colitis Associated Cancer" at the 7th annual Cytokines & Inflammation Conference on January 29-30, 2009 in San Diego, CA.

Dr. Karin will discuss how Interleukin-6 (IL-6) may regulate pre-neoplastic growing during colitis associated cancer (CAC), the most severe complication of ulcerative colitis. Dr. Karin and his group, using genetic tools, have demonstrated that IL-6 is crucial during early CAC tumorgenesis as a tumor promoter. During his presentation on January 30th, he will provide more in-depth details of his research and findings.

Other notable presenters at the conference include Dr. Jay Rothstein, Director of Inflammation Research at Amgen and Barbara White, Vice President, Clinical Development, Inflammatory Disease at MedImmune.
