Curran is a decision and risk management professional who currently is president and CEO of Decision Sciences Corporation, a St. Louis-based consultancy specializing in risk-based senior management decisions in engineering, finance, research, and marketing. He received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Physics with honors from Washington University, and he pursued an education in the field working for various organizations, such as Monsanto Company and Pet, a food manufacturer, prior to forming Decision Sciences Corporation. During his years at Monsanto, he held administrative posts and a research position in the inorganic chemicals division. During his years with Pet, he served as a senior operations research analyst.
During Mr. Curran's extensive career as a management scientist, he developed the theories of range estimating, bracket budgeting, and risk established value. He also co-developed the theories of value-based risk management, bubble management, and the provoke-to-evoke data elicitation methodology. His dedication to the field also led him to contribute chapters to books, including "Handbook of Budgeting," "Effective Project Management Through Applied Cost and Schedule Control," and serve as editor of the first edition of "AACE International's Professional Practice Guide to Decision and Risk Management." Additionally, Mr. Curran has contributed articles to professional journals.
A fellow of the Association of the Advancement of Cost Engineering (AACE), where he served as chairman of the risk management committee as well as a member of the editorial advisory board of the organization's "Cost Engineering" magazine, Mr. Curran is a recipient of AACE's Technical Excellence Award and its Outstanding Technical Committee Chair Award.
Mr. Curran is a member of: The Scientific Research Honor Society (Sigma Xi), The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences for which he served as chairman of the St. Louis chapter, and is a cofounder of the St. Louis chapter of the Project Management Institute.
He was a member of the advisory board of the entrepreneurial business center at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and served as a judge in the technical excellence awards contest sponsored by the St. Louis Business Journal.
Mr. Curran has been featured in more than 50 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the Midwest, and Who's Who in the World. Married to Mary Jane Lemanek since 1981, he is the father of four.
