    IRVING, TX, March 12, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Michaels, the world's largest arts and crafts retailer, announces its new "It's My Birthday" party program in all 1000+ stores to help parents save both time and money while giving their children a unique and personalized birthday party they will remember for years to come.

Designed for ages 5 - 12 and averaging just $12 per child, Michaels' new birthday program offers parents the option of having a party in a Michaels store or at home. For the price of craft supplies, parents get colorful invitations, project ideas, instructions, shopping assistance and a keepsake craft apron for the birthday child. If parents choose to host the party in a Michaels' store, for a $50 booking fee a Michaels craft expert will set up, lead the craft and clean up afterwards and all parents have to do is provide food, drinks and decorations, if desired.

"This easy, fun program allows parents an affordable way to create an unforgettable birthday party for their children," said Stuart Aitken, Michaels Chief Marketing Officer. "In today's economy, people want to spend less while still creating precious birthday memories. This program provides the ideas, inspiration and hands-on help for parents to do that."

The new program will be launched on Saturday, March 14 from 10 am - 2 pm with a Free Make-it Take-it brownie decorating event for the whole family at all U.S. and Canada Michaels stores.

Program participation is simple: Parents meet with a Michaels staff member to schedule the party, set a budget and select a project customized to the birthday child's interests - sports, animals, flowers, butterflies, car/trucks, bugs, action heroes, and fairies are just a few of the many options to choose from. Projects include bulletin boards, pennants, storage boxes, aprons, t-shirts, tote bags, and even decorating brownies, cookies or cupcakes. Each child gets to take his or her finished creation home as a party favor.
