/24-7PressRelease/ - NAPERVILLE, IL, April 03, 2007 - Great Plains Dynamics or current name of the product is Microsoft Dynamics GP was famous for its GPS Dexterity, VBA Modifier, Crystal Reports, ReportWriter customizations. Currently these altered business logics could be considered as legacy product, replaced by such tools as eConnect and MS Dynamics GP SDK. This nevertheless means that customers who have custom logic in old versions, which are still in production, needs modification version upgrade service. Please read our comments to get introduced into GP legacy customization upgrade:
• Dexterity. This tool is and was in fact the core of GPS Dynamics/eEnterprise and current Microsoft Dynamics GP 9.0. Dexterity has sanscript scripting language and uses so-called chunks to distribute customization to users. With the introduction on Dynamics on MS SQL Server chunks were supplemented by SQL scripts, which were installing DYNAMICS and company db stored procedures. In order to upgrade dex customization, your GP upgrade VAR should have access to DYNAMICS.DIC with sanscript customization code - this requires you to keep good relations with your former dex customization developer
• VBA / Modifier. Modifier is Dexterity tool, which allows you to modify (while regular dex alterates) GP forms. In order to upgrade or recover this mod - you will need to be on current Microsoft Dynamics annual enhancement plan as well as have GP Modifier and Customization Site Enabler licenses. If you plan your modification partner to do debugging and QA work, you will need customization site enabler only. VBA as scripting language is slowly going to legacy, as MS is replacing it with the influence of .Net platform
• Crystal Reports. This tool was preferred, until the time when Microsoft decided to stake on MS SQL Server Reporting services - this was pretty understandable step - MS already introduced MSDE and moved its MBS customers to SQL platform (from Pervasive SQL 2000 and Ctree/Faircom)
• eConnect. Business Logic of this product is written in MS SQL Server Stored Procedures. This fact links eConnect with Dexterity architecture, and at the same time allows MS Visual Studio C# or VB developer extend GP without dex knowledge
• GP ReportWriter. This is also Dex tool, however it simplifies such reports as SOP Long Invoice form for example. RW is tightly integrated with GP security realm
• MS Dynamics GP Business Portal. This tool has such modules as Order Management, and is intended to replace former eOrder
