/24-7PressRelease/ - LOUISVILLE, KY, August 16, 2006 - Montgomery Bible Institute and Theological Center has enjoyed a steady flow of students through its small Alabama campus - an average of about 50 students per year since its founding nearly 10 years ago. Now the very small, hands-on school is preparing for a radical shift in operations: going global.
Dr. W.L. Muse founded the non-denominational Montgomery Bible Institute in 1997 to provide ministerial training for pastors and lay leaders serving rural churches, specifically around Alabama. Dr. Muse's background as a former University president and teacher, plus more than 30 years' practice as a pastor, created in him a drive to educate those removed from major institutions.
"Through his experiences, he saw that a lot of people need training in our area," said Linda Muse, Administrator and Special Programs Coordinator at Montgomery Bible, plus Dr. Muse's daughter. "His great love is to work with people in remote areas," ensuring that pastors and congregations of small, rural churches receive the same educational opportunities and benefits of those in large cities.
Having served the immediate areas for almost a decade, a need for Montgomery Bible's services far beyond Alabama began evidenced itself. Members of the school's board of directors live across the country, Linda said, and they found interest among their churches and other ministers. As a result, Montgomery Bible explored online education, "Basically, to be able to reach more students."
Learning House, Inc. (www.learninghouse.com) was employed by the school to make that expansion possible. Four Montgomery Bible courses will be launched this fall - Freshman English, Old Testament and New Testament studies, and Systematic Theology.
From a current student body in the 80s, Montgomery Bible is preparing for a definite change when its curriculum is opened to learners far beyond the Southeast. "It's not just national, it's international," Linda said of interest received. A group of ministers in the Virgin Islands is eagerly awaiting the new online courses, as are churches who've advertised Montgomery Bible's eLearning to their missionaries around the world.
"This gives us an opportunity to reach those people," Linda said. Montgomery Bible Institute and Theological Center was founded to bring education and training to people without access to major universities. Its commitment to eLearning will allow the institution to truly fulfill this unlimited goal.
