Moonja Shin Celebrates 35 Years of Professional Experience in Speech Language Pathology

Dr. Shin is the first Korean winner of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Fellow

Dr. Shin serves as a professor and chair of the Department of Speech-Language Pathology, and dean of the College of Health Sciences at Chosun University.

    DONG-GU, REPUBLIC OF KOREA, January 22, 2018 -- Moonja Shin has been included in Marquis Who's Who. With more than 35 years of professional experience, Dr. Shin serves as a professor and chair of the Department of Speech-Language Pathology, and dean of the College of Health Sciences at Chosun University. Prior to obtaining these roles, she was a speech language pathologist with the Seoul National University Department of Child Psychiatry and a director with Shin's Speech-Language Clinic. She was trying to develop the speech-language pathology (SLP) in Korea, such as the certification establishment, the clinical training establishment and assessment tool development. Earlier in her career, she held academic positions with Dankook University, Yonsei University, Hallym University, and Ewha Womans University.

Dr. Shin began her career as a student at Ewha Womans University, where she obtained a BA in English and MA in linguistics. She then traveled to the United States to study at Wayne State University, earning a BA in speech language pathology, before completing an MS in speech language pathology at Michigan State University. She returned to the Republic of Korea to earn a PhD in speech, language, and hearing disorders from Dankook University.

An expert in the field, Dr. Shin is affiliated with a number of professional organizations. She took the role of chairperson of the Korean Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and as vice president of the Korean Academy of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, and the Korean Society for Augmentative and Alternative Communication. Dr. Shin is a certified member of ASHA (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association) in SLP, the vice president of the Walk with Stuttering Korea Social Cooperatives, board member of the Korean Society for Applied Departmental Psychology with a certificate in Sand Play Therapy, the Korean Association for Persons with Autism, and the Korean Society of Speech Sciences. She has been recognized numerous times for her contributions as well, earning a fellowship from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Looking toward the future, Dr. Shin intends to experience the continued success of her career, especially in stuttering.
