MISSISSAUGA, ON, June 15, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Michael J. Weinberg (www.mississaugacosmeticsurgeryclinic.com), a leading plastic surgeon in Toronto and Mississauga, says more women are getting Mommy Makeover procedures at his clinics as the word spreads about how combining breast and body operations can produce dramatic, cost-effective results.
The relatively new practice combines various cosmetic procedures into one operation meant to address sagging abdominal skin, drooping breasts, and other cosmetic issues caused by pregnancy. Dr. Weinberg says most of his patients choose a tummy tuck, liposuction, and breast augmentation for a Mommy Makeover at his Toronto-area clinics.
"Combining surgical procedures offers patients a number of advantages," he says.
"Patients can save on operating room and anesthesia costs when they combine surgeries rather than having them performed separately over time," Dr. Weinberg says. "And they go through only one recovery period, rather than 2 or 3 separate ones."
A good candidate for a mommy makeover is a woman who is in good overall health and whose body has stopped changing after her pregnancy, he says. Dr. Weinberg points out that his Mommy Makeover patients range from mothers whose children are still in diapers to women with grown children who have long wanted to reverse some of the negative cosmetic effects of pregnancy.
"One of the most common comments I hear from patients is that they regret not having the procedure years earlier," he says. "Some patients may not realize that combining surgical procedures is an option, and is typically safe in women in good health. One of the advantages of undergoing combination surgery with a very experienced surgeon is the speed with which the procedures can be carried out. Risks of surgery generally do increase somewhat with lengthier time under anesthesia, but in experienced hands, several separate procedures can often be accomplished in the same length of time it would take a less seasoned surgeon to complete just one."
The surge in Mommy Makeovers is a trend that's been gradually building. Liposuction and breast augmentation are 2 of the most popular cosmetic plastic surgery procedures performed in Canada and worldwide. The number of tummy tuck operations is also increasing, according to statistics from the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Some women opt for an arm lift, thigh lift, or even facial procedures as part of their Mommy Makeovers.
Women who have had children and struggle with stretched abdominal skin sometimes come in to consult about getting a tummy tuck in the Toronto area and end up asking about a Mommy Makeover, Dr. Weinberg says.
"It's a really transformative option, and I think that's the main reason more mothers are choosing it," he says. "Women are beginning to realize that they can alleviate all these cosmetic concerns and restore their confidence in one fell swoop."
