MS Events Announces Second Annual St. Patty's Run Green 8K
MS Events announces its second annual St. Patty's Day Run Green 8K race to be held in downtown Raleigh on Sunday, March 7th.

    RALEIGH, NC, February 12, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- MS Events (www.mseventsnc.org), the nonprofit organization coordinating Triangle-area bike and foot endurance races, announces the second annual Run Green 8K (www.stpattysrungreen.com). The event will be held on Sunday, March 7 at downtown Raleigh's Moore Square, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society of Eastern North Carolina.

"Last year's inaugural earth-friendly race was a huge success with more than 800 runners and hundreds more enjoying the green expo and festivities," says Bruce Bokish, director of MS Events. "This year we are planning an even bigger and better green event."

New this year is a Pint-sized Micro-Marathon for non-runners who want to support the fight against MS. Walk, jog, or run 26.2 yards around Moore Square, and then take part in a variety of post-race festivities. Hosted by Tir na nOg Irish Pub, the post-race party will feature live music and a special menu. The first 1,500 registered runners will receive a St. Patty's Run Green pint glass and one complimentary beer. In addition, every 100th 8K finisher will receive a free pair of Brooks running shoes from Fleet Feet Sports, Raleigh.

Other highlights of this event include:
• A scenic new USATF-sanctioned 8K course (with 2 water stops)
• Jaguar race timing: disposable-tag timing by Precision Race, with no separate chip
distribution line or finish-line congestion caused by chip collection
• Convenient parking close to the race start/finish at Moore Square
• A green, sustainable event with minimal landfill waste

The St. Patty's Run Green 8K is an earth-friendly St. Patty's celebration. It is the first sustainable "Race Without a Trace" in Raleigh. Aimed at minimizing landfill waste, the race utilizes electronic race packets and compostable food and drink containers.

Race sponsors Fleet Feet Sports Raleigh and Brooks Sports will provide competitive division prizes. Award categories include:
• Top 3 overall male and female
• Top 3 overall male and female Masters
• Top Kilt wearers
• Top 3 male and female in each age group
