/24-7PressRelease/ - LOS ANGELES, CA, July 26, 2008 - My First Shades ' ultimate mission is to encourage early eye protection while raising awareness regarding the damaging effects of UV rays on children's eyes. In order to help educate and increase action, My First Shades has launched their grassroots program, Safe Eyes Everyday or SEE. The program is a partnership between industry and eye care professionals committed to raising awareness about the need to protect children's eye from the sun's UV radiation.
Protecting children's eyes is a necessary measure to take, but one that few parents do. 82% of parents make sure their children are wearing sunscreen when outdoors, but only 32% of parents tell their children to put on sunglasses as well. As Boston based Optician Paul M. Cangiano remarks, "Today, parents cover their children with sunscreen from head to toe and cover their heads with hats, but they forget the most important thing...The Eye! With the depletion of the ozone, it is never too early to get infants started with preventative eye care. Sunglasses are the perfect starting point."
My First Shades is excited to be able to begin this program, and spread education and action. As Lisa Medora, My First Shades Executive Vice President, puts it, "Few people realize the damage the sun can have on young eyes. Hopefully SEE will help them recognize the possible effects of UV damage, and protect themselves from it."
Industry and eye care professionals are encouraged to participate in the program. If interested in taking part, or have questions or comments, please contact Lisa Medora at lmedora@myfirstshades.com or 978-371-2900.
