/24-7PressRelease/ - July 11, 2007 - The novel was published by the author and printed at the Jordan Press Association, it is described by its author and those who read it as an honest reflection of society and the different changes people encounter in their day to day lives. Set against the backdrop of a vibrant social setting "My Silence is My Retreat" serves to cleverly examine relationships between people, as well as day to day romantic encounters an average person may experience at study, at war or during his or her day to day life.
The book's title is in fact a statement reflective of our tendencies as human beings to withdraw from our common surroundings and to seek solitude when faced with problems we find difficult to share. The novel highlights the importance of social interaction and its storyline clearly serves to show that life is more beautiful when we as human beings go through its events in the company of friends and loved ones. The plot also sets out to prove that boredom is a social vice, and it makes this message very clear through its tribute to productive and powerful women who succeed in making their mark on society.
In an emphatic speech he gave during the event, Mr. Sa'id Shuqum said, "I am very happy to be here tonight as I celebrate the launch of my new literary work. I hold it dear to my heart, especially since it is a true labor of love and the product of the new found free time, I enjoy after completing a fulfilling career and many years of commitment.
Mr. Sa'id Shuqom further added that in his book, he draws upon the different lessons he learned throughout the different posts he held in Jordan's private and public sectors. "While writing this book, I was stunned by the strong sense of nostalgia I felt for good works of literature, and although I realize that writing this book comes at a rather late stage in my life, I feel that it is always better to start late than never, and at this point I admit that writing is no easy task" he said
Mr. Shuqom also stressed on the important role that creative writing and reading play in the make-up of sound societies. He also promised his guests that more literary works are on the way, and that he plans to push for the provision of support systems for talented Jordanian writers.
It is important to note that Mr. Sa'id Shuqom took on several prestigious posts in both Jordan's private and public sector. He was Visa International - CEMEA General and Business Development Manager for the Levant between 2001 and 2006. In 1999 he was appointed as Minister of Youth & Sports. He also serves as Chairman of the Jordan Postal Company amongst other posts.
