MIAMI, FL, November 19, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Imagine you're in an emergency situation and your smartphone could automatically call 911, while simultaneously alerting your family, friends and emergency contacts that you're in trouble and providing your GPS location; blasting a police siren; and even including a video recording of your present environment. That is precisely what MyFlare does, the first automated multi-functional personal safety app for smartphones.

What makes MyFlare unique is that it not only utilizes telephone, SMS text messaging, e-mail, GPS, audio and video to create and continuously deliver an emergency distress message, but all of its resources execute automatically upon pushing just one button within the app. MyFlare 's functionality is simple and simultaneous -- critical in a potentially life-threatening situation.

According to a recent USA Today study encompassing the 50 biggest U.S. cities, more than 1,000 savable lives are lost each year because of inefficiencies in emergency medical response times. The National Crime Victimization Survey reported in 2006 that 232,960 women in the U.S. were raped or sexually assaulted, which equated to more than 600 women every day. Furthermore, the Stalking Resource Center has found that 1,006,970 women are stalked annually in the U.S., and one in 12 women will be stalked in her lifetime. In addition, the Kids Fighting Chance organization reveals that one child is reported missing or abducted every 40 minutes, which translates to approximately 2,000 reports per day and 800,000 reports per year.

These examples of statistics prove there is a major need for an additional -- and personal -- layer of protection in the event of an emergency. With MyFlare , that time has finally come. Funded and designed by co-founders Barry Haimo and David Kahn, and developed by iPowerFour, a multinational software development company with an 18-year proven track record, MyFlare acts as a personalized digital flare gun by cleverly utilizing smartphone technology to minimize one's risk of danger. In the event of an emergency, MyFlare performs ALL of the following actions automatically, simultaneously and continuously in order to give users the help they need when they need it most:

• Calls 911 or the user's designated non-911 emergency contact
• Sends a customized MyFlare Message via SMS text message and e-mail to 10 of the user's pre-selected MyFlare Contacts , alerting them that the user's in trouble (the message includes the user's current GPS location)
• Sends 20-second optional video recordings capturing the user's present environment, which are attached to the delivered e-mails every few minutes (as determined by the user)
• Blasts an optional police siren continuously, except when the phone is not in use

Most importantly, the MyFlare Message is delivered to the user's MyFlare Contacts every three minutes with the user's updated GPS location. This may prove to be helpful as evidence in legal proceedings or in the event that the user is fleeing an emergency situation, or worse, abducted. David Kahn, co-founder of MyFlare , remarked, "We wanted to create a mobile phone app that will make a difference to a lot of people. The statistics we found were frightening and moving forward with the development of this idea was a no-brainer." Kahn's business partner, Barry Haimo, added, "Unfortunately, there is often insufficient time in an emergency to communicate with 911, and only some 911 dispatchers will investigate scenarios where 911 is called but the victim cannot communicate. MyFlare gives smartphone users the peace of mind knowing that there is additional reassurance in all emergencies."

The peace of mind that MyFlare provides can be obtained for a one-time introductory cost of $2.49. The app is now available for Android on the Android Market, Amazon.com and Android Tapp. The app will be coming to iPhone in November on the iTunes App Store, and to BlackBerry later in the fall. In addition, MyFlare Español is launching in November, followed by MyFlare International .
