/24-7PressRelease/ - North Yorkshire, UK, September 05, 2008 - The theme of ALT-C 2008 is 'Re-thinking the Digital Divide', and MyKnowledgeMap will be exhibiting at the main conference along with twenty seven other businesses. Founded in 2000, MyKnowledgeMap develops web-based software and knowledge systems to support learning and training across the educational, public and private sectors.

Multi Port Mobile has already been recognised for its innovative use of modern technology, winning the prestigious Techworld award for Mobility Project of the Year. Piloted by the ALPS project (Assessment and Learning in Practice Settings), it is being used by tutors to manage the learning, assessment, and development of Health and Social Care students on work based practice. Each student in the project has been given a mobile device from which they can access a personal learning space. Using Multi Port Mobile they have been able to build up e-portfolios which provide evidence of the skills and competencies they have gained during their work experience.

Rob Arnsten, CEO of MyKnowledgeMap explains why Multi-Port Mobile has been such a good fit for the ALPS users: "Developing competence and confidence in a practice setting is vital for students training for a career in health and social care because there is a wide range of general and specific skills that can only be developed in the clinic, hospital or workplace. Accessing learning systems between dealing with patients matters most to these people and that's where mobile technologies come in."

The pre-conference e vent being held on the 8th September will include a demonstration of the system in action. Attendees will learn more about the technology involved and will have the opportunity to use the mobile devices themselves.

About MyKnowledgeMap

Founded in 2000 by Rob Arntsen, who had previously held a range of senior management roles in IBM, MyKnowledgeMap is one of the UK's leading learning technology providers. They produce a comprehensive range of systems, services and courseware that allow organizations to improve the way they manage learning and development.
MyKnowledgeMap has worked with companies of all sizes across the public and private sectors, from the Nuclear industry's National Skills Academy to leading haircare company GHD, from Tesco to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
Their focus is on integrating systems and working with large organisations to produce effective bespoke learning infrastructures. Their mission is to help companies to manage learning and course materials in a way that makes them personal to the needs of different learners, and flexible enough to meet the challenges of the future. They also have a range of off-the-shelf systems that can be "plugged in" to each other to create an end-to-end skills management and development platform:
• Talent management: MyKnowledgeMap's skills gap analysis platform, Capability Matrix, allows people to analyse what learning they need.
• Custom-friendly e-learning: MyKnowledgeMap produce libraries of e-learning materials and bespoke learning courseware that can easily be customised to suit the needs of particular learners.
• Custom learning tools: MyKnowledgeMap create a range of tools that make it easy to package up e-learning courses that conform to widely used technical standards (SCORM and IMS) while allowing non-technical teachers and trainers to be very creative. Tools include rapid authoring software, and Compendle, a web-based tool for customising, sequencing and rebranding your courses.
• Personal learning spaces: MyKnowledgeMap's personal learning environment, Multi-Port, offers social-networking—style support for teachers and learners on the web. It allows tutors to create courses and assessments that are supported by chatrooms and blogs which students can keep up-to-date, as well as offering facilities for more formal assessment. More recently, the Multi-Port Mobile plug-in has brought personal learning to students' mobile phones.
