January 05, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- In a perfect world, businesses would never have to deal with uncertainty. Fleet managers, who have to face everything from monetary losses due to vehicles involved in crashes to the loss of life itself, realize this isn't a perfect world. Since it is neither possible nor practical to insure against every situation, it is up to the fleet manager to make sure their vehicles are safe, drivers are trained, and crashes are prevented. To help fleet managers learn more about risk management, NAFA Fleet Management Association is running a Risk Management 101 webinar series February 6 through March 1, 2012.

The webinar series will run Mondays from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. EST and Thursdays from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. EST. Taught by experienced NAFA instructor Kate Vigneau, CAFM, the series will demonstrate the varying strategies for dealing with risk by focusing on insurance, subrogation, training, and safety in addition to how to effectively handle a loss. Students will use NAFA's Risk Management Guide as the textbook for the course. The webinar series is ideally suited for CAFM/CAFS candidates planning on taking the Risk Management exam in 2012, but individuals not currently enrolled in the Certification Program are also welcome to take the course. Students will receive a certificate for completion of the class on submission of their completed questions.

Risk Management 101 involves four competencies. The first deals with risk and the process of managing it. The second defines the principles of insurance and demonstrates its importance in risk management. The third illustrates the importance of driver training and general vehicle safety. Since every risk involved in driving cannot be completely prevented, this competency also covers dealing with loss. The fourth competency covers crash management and the proper ways data and investigations should be managed.

NAFA's webinar series allows fleet professionals to learn from the comfort of their own home. Previous webinar series such as NAFA's Professional Development Primer were highly successful and well received by attendees. Courses are delivered through Microsoft Windows Live. Participants will need access to a computer with internet access, speakers, and a microphone. A headset is preferred, but not essential.

The cost is $199 for CAFM/CAFS candidates currently enrolled in the Certification Program. The cost for NAFA Members/ Affiliates not currently enrolled in the certification program is $249; and the cost for non-NAFA Members/Affiliates not currently enrolled in the certification program is $349.

This webinar is another example of how NAFA is helping fleet professionals further their knowledge of fleet management. NAFA's Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM) certification program is recognized as the fleet management industry's highest level of certification. To become certified, an applicant must pass a series of comprehensive examinations to demonstrate expertise in the eight disciplines of automotive fleet management: Fleet Information Management, Maintenance Management, Professional Development, Vehicle Fuel Management, Asset Management, Business Management, Financial Management, and Risk Management.

Individuals with at least one year of experience within a fleet-related position can become a Certified Automotive Fleet Specialist (CAFS) by completing one of three streams based on the full CAFM program. Stream One is comprised of Fleet Information Management, Professional Development, Risk Management, and Financial Management. Stream Two is comprised of Asset Management, Fleet Information Management, Business Management, and Risk Management. Stream Three is comprised of Fleet Information Management, Maintenance Management, Professional Development, and Vehicle Fuel Management.
