Najib George Awad, Ph.D., Celebrates More than 20 Years of Professional Excellence

From 2008 to 2009, Dr. Awad was recognized as a visiting fellow with the Yale Divinity School at Yale University



    HARTFORD, CT, February 22, 2018 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Najib George Awad, Ph.D., has been included in Marquis Who's Who. With more than 20 years of industry experience to his credit, Dr. Awad currently works as an associate professor of Christian technology and early Eastern Christianity, as well as the director of the International Ph.D. Program for Hartford Seminary. Prior to this appointment, he held the positions as a lecturer in systematic and intercultural theology by the University of Goettingen from 2010 to 2012, a script liaison officer for the OCI-SAT7 TEACH Pilot Project at the SAT7 Christian Space Channel in 2008, and a lecturer in systematic theology and Christian doctrine by the Near East School of Theology from 2006 to 2007. Previously, Dr. Awad was a visiting lecturer at several prestigious universities, including Universite La Sagesse in 2006, American University of London in 2001, Selly Oak Colleges in 2000, and the National Presbyterian Church of Lattakia in 1999.

Likewise, Dr. Awad served in multiple capacities for the National Evangelical Synod of Syria and Lebanon, such as the director of youth ministry with the Reformed Churches of Syria from 1998 to 1999, chairperson of the Religious Work Committee from 1997 to 1999, and director of religious activities with the Aljazerah Province from 1997 to 1998. Additionally, he worked as a co-moderator of elementary education at the Evangelical Elementary School for the National Reformed Church of Alhaskeh from 1997 to 1998. During the same period of time, Dr. Awad began his career as a senior minister at Alhaskeh National Presbyterian Church.

Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Awad pursued an education at the Near East School of Theology, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Christian theology in 1997. He followed this accomplishment in 2001, receiving a Master of Arts in systematic theology at King's College London. He continued his studies at the same institution, completing a Doctor of Philosophy in 2005. In 2014, Dr. Awad concluded his academic efforts at Philipps Universitaet Marburg, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in theology and habilitation.

Beyond his responsibilities within the field, Dr. Awad has contributed to numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. He has found much success as an author, having been published in Arabic and English in such works as "God without Face? On the Personal Individuation of the Holy Spirit" in 2011, "And Freedom Became a Public-Square: Political, Sociological and Religious Overviews on the Arab Christians and the Arabic Spring" in 2012, "Persons in Relation: An Essay on the Trinity and Ontology" in 2014, and "Orthodoxy in Arabic Terms: A Study of Theodore Abu Qurrah's Trinitarian and Christological Doctrines in an Islamic Context" in 2015. He has also contributed articles and reviews for such esteemed journals as Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations, International Journal of Systematic Theology, The Theological Review, and the Journal of Reformed Theology. Dr. Awad has also served as moderator and editor-in-chief for Alnashra from 2005 to 2010.

In addition to his primary trade, Dr. Awad remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He has actively maintained membership with the American Oriental Society, the American Academy of Religion, the Society for the Study of Theology, the Association for the Study of the Middle East and Africa, and the European Society for Intercultural Theology and Interreligious Studies. He was previously involved with the Fellowship of Langham Scholars, the World Association for Christian Communication, the Media and Publication Committee in the National Evangelical Synod of Syria and Lebanon, and the Association of the Theological Institutes in the Middle East from 1993 to 1995. Likewise, Dr. Awad has been a delegate for the Middle East Council of Churches for the United Nations' Youth Summit and Church of Scotland's General Assembly in 2003.

In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Awad has accrued several accolades and honors throughout his impressive career. From 2008 to 2009, he was recognized as a visiting fellow with the Yale Divinity School at Yale University as well as a grantee of John Stott Ministries. He was also a scholar of the Langham Partnership from 2001 to 2005 and the Church Mission Society from 2000 to 2001. Dr. Awad has been presented with grants from King's College London from 2001 to 2004, and the National Evangelical Synod of Syria and Lebanon from 2001 to 2004, as well as an International Leadership Development Scholarship by the Presbyterian Church from 2002 to 2004.

Crediting his success to his passion for his work as well as his reflection on his student's feedback, Dr. Awad was inspired to enter the field of theology by his passion for philosophy and humanity.
