Nancy Upshaw Oprsal Celebrates 50 Years in Education

Although retired, Ms. Oprsal continues to serve as an educator for various organizations throughout California



Widely regarded for her skill and dedication as an educator, Ms. Oprsal served as a teacher with the San Juan School District for three decades.

    CARMICHAEL, CA, February 03, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Nancy Upshaw Oprsal has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Widely regarded for her skill and dedication as an educator, Ms. Oprsal served as a teacher with the San Juan School District for three decades prior to her retirement in 1996. Since then, she has continued to assist the district as a guest teacher. Ms. Oprsal is actively involved with the Unitarian Universalist Society of Sacramento and has been a church school teacher with the organization for more than 50 years. Since 1980, she has also worked as a receptionist and docent at Effie Yeaw Nature Center in Carmichael, Calif. Most recently, Ms. Oprsal joined the Family Promise Interfaith Hospitality Network as a coordinator in 2004.

Ms. Oprsal began her career upon graduating with a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from the University of North Texas in 1952. She immediately went on to attend the George Peabody College for Teachers, where she earned a scholarship to get a Master's degree in Early Childhood Education in 1953. While she was pursuing further education, Ms. Oprsal also worked as a preschool music teacher at Greenhill School in Dallas, Texas. Prior to joining the San Juan School District in 1966, she worked as a teacher for Denver Public Schools, Fort Worth Public Schools, Dallas Independent School District and Del Paso Heights School District.

In recognition of her contributions to the field of education, Ms. Oprsal has been included in a wide range of honors publications, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who of American Women and Who's Who in the World. In addition, she was included in the 8th edition of Who's Who in American Education, which was published in 2007. Although Ms. Oprsal is now retired, she continues to volunteer for the Garden Club, and tutor young children in reading and math. She is also a facilitator for Family Promise, and is part of Camp Five, where she is involved with deer and fawn story time for young children. Ms. Oprsal continues to volunteer at Effie Yeaw Nature Center with five-year-olds in Camp 5 and with three and four-year-olds in Deer and Fawn Storytime. On February 28, 2001, Ms. Oprsal was named in the national Thousand Points of Light in connection with her volunteer work at Effie Yeaw Nature Center.
