MONTCLAIR, NJ, October 25, 2009
/24-7PressRelease/ -- With the budget for local drug prevention programming being drastically slashed in New Jersey this year, a coalition of area Montclair businesses are stepping in to present "Raisin' Week," a week designed to empower children with drug prevention education and parents with tools to raise a drug-free family. From October 26 through 31, a series of five Narconon anti-drug lectures will be delivered by Dr. Tyran Mincey, Doctor of Chiropractic, at area businesses and schools in Montclair. The activities will culminate with a Drug-Free Halloween Party and Health Fair on October 31. "Raisin' Week" is being presented by the Montclair Public Schools Health and Wellness Initiative in partnership with Integrated Healthcare of Montclair and a cross section of Montclair enterprises.
Local businesses are opening their doors to the public for the lectures, which are based on materials from
Narconon's drug education and rehabilitation programs. Narconon is an international non-profit organization that has been providing effective drug rehabilitation and prevention services for over 40 years.
"Concerned about our youth, Montclair businesses are working together to address one of the most serious crises facing our young people today," said Mincey. "Getting families educated on the
Truth about Drugs is really the only way kids will be able to make good decisions about drugs. These drug prevention talks are designed to open up family discussions, help families set clear guidelines and give them tools to create safe and drug-free lives."
The prevention talks, which run 30 to 45 minutes, will include "What is a Drug?" on Monday, October 26; "Physical Effects of Drugs" on Tuesday, October 27; "Chemical Effects of Drugs" on Wednesday, October 28; "Alternatives to Prescription Medications" on Thursday, October 29, and "Talking to Kids About Drugs" on Friday October 30 from 3-5 p.m. at Proponent Federal Credit Union. Saturday's Halloween Party, which includes games, face painting as well as stress and health screenings, wraps up the week-long prevention activities. It will be held at Unbelieva-Bills, NewJersey's premier children's entertainment center.
