Drug-Free Graduates Statistics - Vista Bay
LOS ANGELES, CA, April 23, 2009
/24-7PressRelease/ -- In January, 2009, Northern California's Narconon Vista Bay drug rehabilitation center was reported by
http://www.drugbulletin.org/, a professional blog of Clark Carr, President Narconon International, to have a one-year drug-free success rate of 79.6%.
It is routine practice for Narconon centers to follow up their program graduates, and Vista Bay keeps statistics from one-month up to one-year with regular follow-up calls to graduates and their families. The staff also check with their graduates regarding their success meeting personal discharge program objectives having to do with each graduate's return-to-work, family, or school.
An 80% drug-free success rate is exceptional. The 1998 SAMHSA Services Research Outcomes Study (SROS) national survey (DHHS Publication No (SMA) 98-3177, September, 1998) of 1,799 drug rehab clients in 99 drug treatment centers across the United States reported an average 5-year post-program 21% reduction in use of any illicit drug and 14% reduction in use of alcohol.
"But these results are the standard for Narconon," says Executive Director of Vista Bay. "Our network has been reporting approximately 75% drug-free lives post-program for decades." These tabulations have been conducted by Narconon staff as well as external observers or tabulators.
Vista Bay reported that their percentage of drug-free AND alcohol-free was slightly less, 71% - still in the high range for rehabs. (Alcohol is also a drug, of course, but is usually reported separately.)
These figures are based on 132 graduates.
The majority of the Narconon program is life skills training to develop and/or improve an addict's abilities to make and practice wiser and more ethical choices. These courses also teach how to change life conditions for the better. Therefore, it is Narconon staff policy to recover students who relapse post-program to help them find out what they missed in their earlier studies. The idea is that someone who's got the data can live an ethical, drug-free life - assuming, of course, that the person desires this objective.
The fundamental premise of the Narconon drug rehabilitation program model is that a person, whether addicted to alcohol and other drugs or not, is responsible for his own condition and that he can and will improve his life to the degree he takes personal responsibility - and then does something about it. Of course, the doing something about it is the magic.
