National Association of Distinguished Professionals Selects Phyllis J. Hendricks as a Distinguished Professional in Her Field

Ms. Hendricks will be featured in the upcoming edition of the NADP Women of Distinction Magazine in 2014.

CLEVELAND, OH, September 13, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Phyllis J. Hendricks, Watercolor Artist, Poet, and Author, has been recognized as a Distinguished Professional in her field through the National Association of Distinguished Professionals. Ms. Hendricks will be featured in the upcoming edition of the NADP Women of Distinction Magazine in 2014.

Phyllis J. Hendricks began her career in education after earning her BA in Education from Kent State University. Graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1950, she taught kindergarten-grade four elementary students, and later began team teaching with another fellow second grade teacher at her school, with her specialty being social studies and science.

"My husband, he was my very best critique and supporter that I ever had. He enabled me to create and develop my talents rather than mopping floors, running the vacuum cleaner and dusting," Ms. Hendricks said, noting that her husband was the first vice-president in charge at the Federal Reserve Bank in Cleveland, Ohio. "Not much time for moss to gather under my feet is a reminder of my philosophy that hard work never hurt anyone."

Ms. Hendricks' philosophy throughout life stems from a bible verse from Isaiah that says that God gives power to the faint and strengthens the powerless, but those who praise the Lord shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall walk and not faint. She also follows the philosophy of Winston Churchill's famous, one sentence speech during World War II, "Never, never, never give up."

Upon retirement, Ms. Hendricks moved to Florida with her mother-in-law as a snow bird. Attending various craft classes, she quickly took a liking to painting and soon after, she began partaking in private lessons. Ms. Hendricks then attended various workshops and began painting in other forms, such as oil and acrylic. But it was watercolor that she enjoyed most.

Ms. Hendricks taught six-week watercolor course to adults in St. Augustine once she became proficient at it herself. She also began writing poetry and books. She has three books currently published and one more on the way. Those published include: 'MG The Ugly Dragon'; 'Pause, Peruse, Ponder Psalms by Phyllis'; and 'Morris the Horse and Others of Course'.

A member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Eastern Star, Ms. Hendricks also spent time serving on the Parent Teacher Association where her two sons attended grade school. She also served as chairman raising funds for school supplies before becoming vice-president and president. Ms. Hendricks also tutored adults seeking their diplomas for At Learn to Read Center in St. Augustine, Florida, which she found very rewarding.
