SAN DIEGO, CA, October 12, 2008 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps has opening for a limited number of young people ages 10-17 to join the crew of GUNFIGHTER Squadron and Training Ship TOPGUN. Interviews and orientation will be held at the Sea Cadet Headquarters, Building 9689, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar on Saturday, October 18, 2008 at 9:00 am.

The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps is comprised of everyday young people who have an interest in seamanship, aviation, the Navy, Coast Guard or other military careers. Cadet applicants train in a drug, alcohol, and gang-free environment. They must also be physically fit and in good scholastic standing.

GUNFIGHTER Squadron and Training Ship TOPGUN Cadets, representing North San Diego City and County, train aboard the Marine Corps Air Station at Miramar the first and third Saturday of every month. Volunteers dedicated to instilling the core values of Pride, Service, and Patriotism manage the program. Sea Cadets wear the traditional Navy uniforms and can participate in a multitude of advanced training programs including at-sea training with the Navy and Coast Guard, submarine orientation, SEAL Training, search and rescue, and international exchange. Cadets recently completed a comprehensive marksmanship-training program as well as in-depth summer training programs in places such as Hawaii, Virginia, and locations throughout California.

Adult volunteers, with or without military experience are also needed to allow the Sea Cadet program to grow. Those with seamanship, engineering, administrative, and fund-raising skills are especially needed. Interested adults are also encouraged to visit on October 18th.
