Navy SEAL Shot 27 Times Speaks for First Time in Scottsdale, Arizona

Navy SEAL Mike Day Becomes and Epidemic of Hope and Inspires Hollywood Star Chris Pratt

When it was all over, Mike was shot 27 times and suffered shrapnel wounds from a grenade that detonated within feet of where he was standing.

SCOTTSDALE, AZ, August 20, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Mike Day served over twenty-one years in the SEAL Teams leading his men into battle. On his final mission in Iraq, Mike's men stacked behind him as he led his team into a twelve by twelve foot room of a building suspected of housing a group of deadly Al Qaeda insurgents. It was 3:00 AM and pitch dark when the door exploded open as Mike flung himself forward. The enemy had been waiting; four gunman opened fire on Mike and his team and within seconds one Navy SEAL behind Mike was shot and killed while the others were all wounded. When it was all over, Mike was shot 27 times and suffered shrapnel wounds from a grenade that detonated within feet of where he was standing.

Mike reflected on the incident some seven years later, "It was a miracle that I survived, it's still hard to believe!" He spent a year recovering from his wounds. Although Mike retired from the Navy in 2010, he continues to lead fellow warriors as a full-time case manager and care advocate. This past March Mike decided to compete in a Half-Ironman Triathlon to raised funds for other wounded warriors. Hollywood Actor and Jurassic World's Star Chris Pratt learned of Mike's story and was so inspired that he skipped the MTV Movie Awards to compete along side Mike in the race. Mike has raised the over $100,000 to help provide his fellow wounded warriors with access to customized brain injury treatment programs. Current estimates suggest that as many as 300,000 former and current service members have some degree of brain injury. "It's been a long road," said Mike. "My life's mission now is to continue to lead others to overcome the challenges in their life."

On September 18, 2015, retired Navy Senior Chief Mike Day will be speaking for the first time about his career in the SEAL Teams, overcoming obstacles and becoming an "Epidemic of Hope" for others.
