RALEIGH, NC, September 18, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Green Energy Corp (GEC), a technology company that provides open-source software solutions and engineering services to smart energy, communication and utility companies, is the latest corporate partner to locate an office at the NC State University's Centennial Campus.

The company, which has also offices in Denver (headquarters) and Durango, Colorado, will be located in the Venture IV office complex.

"We are delighted to have Green Energy Corp as a business partner," said Dennis Kekas, Associate Vice Chancellor of the Centennial Campus Partnership Office. "They are a perfect fit with our other partners and focus on green grid research and development. They are going to bring an enormous amount of experience and knowledge to NC State."

Green Energy Corp recently merged with Denver-based Magpie TI, a provider of software engineering services. The newly formed company includes senior business leaders and top industry experts with deep experience managing technology companies and building energy and communications solutions. Corporate offices were consolidated at the Magpie location in Denver, while the engineering divisions are in Durango, CO and Centennial Campus.
GEC's Total Grid Management system is a comprehensive suite of software and services used by power providers and system integrators to implement smart grid operations systems. The Total Grid Management system is powered by the GreenBus platform, the first open source, standards-based platform for interoperability. GreenBus is based upon a robust service-oriented architecture that supports a scalable, high performance and secure utility operations platform.

FREEDM just recently installed 286 solar panels on the roof of the building where it's located, with the eventual goal of creating a 1kW demonstration hub. The research park and technology campus is also home to more than 60 corporate, governmental and non-profit partners. Four university college programs also have a significant presence on campus - College of Engineering, College of Veterinary Medicine, College of Textiles and the College of Education. NC State is one of the top research universities in the country, with expenditures in research approaching more than $325 million annually. The university ranks third among all public universities (without medical schools) in industry-sponsored research expenditures. www.centennial.ncsu.edu
