/24-7PressRelease/ -- The popular BNN news program, "Headlines" tackled the controversial topic of Nearshoring during the show's airing on Nov. 11, and one of the special guests on the program was Kirk Laughlin, founder and editorial director of the top online news blog covering sourcing in Latin America, Canada and the Caribbean.
Nearshore Americas, launched in September, has quickly gained an international following by providing authoritative news and analysis on the fast-emerging industry of nearshore professional services, such as IT support, call center functions and software development.
"Nearshoring is a classic symptom of globalization," Laughlin said during the live interview. "Companies are reassessing the advantages of working in places like Costa Rica, Colombia, Mexico and Canada. It just depends on the kind of resources and talent and the attractiveness of those markets to meet the needs of the clients."
Laughlin, who is a veteran business journalist and former vice president at New York City tech publisher Ziff Davis, explained that Latin American destination are increasingly valued for their stable economies and the strong coordination between private industry and the government to create a robust education framework. "Spanish language capabilities are also highly sought after," said Laughlin.
The other featured panelists on the program, hosted by Howard Green, included Sebastien Ruest, VP services software and infrastructure solutions at IDC Canada and Bernard Courtois, president and CEO, ITAC, a Canada-based ITC advocacy group.
Laughlin further noted that Canada may have difficulty competing globally based on comparative weaknesses in the area of scale. "If you compare this country against cities like Bogata or Sao Paulo, Canada lacks a bit if you really look at it," he said, adding however that Toronto continues to have strong potential as a destination for finance and accounting outsourced services. Toronto is the third-largest financial services center in North America.
