Cambridge Who's Who
/Cambridge Who's Who/ - Los Angeles, CA, March 27, 2008, Neil Jacoby Jr., an astronautics and astrodynamics scientist, has been honored by
Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of scientific research in the field of astronautics.
Mr. Jacoby is considered to be an expert amongst colleagues for his research on near-earth objects such as asteroids and comets that can threaten our planet. His novel numerical integrated method for determining these approaches earned him the title of Cambridge Who's Who 2008 Professional of the Year in Astronautics and Astrodynamics.
Mr. Jacoby began his astronautic and atrodynamic studies at the University of California, Los Angeles in 1960. His areas of expertise include developing solutions to orbital analysis problems, developing optimal solutions to missile trajectory and satellite orbit determination problems, and analyzing oceanographic systems. Mr. Jacoby's method for predicting the orbits of objects involves not only two-body methods, but also requires numerical integration methods, which include the perturbations of all eight planets.
Mr. Jacoby gained experience from part-time positions with Tutor College Mathematics, Griffith Observatory, and Guide-Lecturing and Demonstration Scientific Exhibits. In 1966, Jacoby worked as a computer program consultant and research assistant for the University of California, Los Angeles in the Western Data Processing Center, School of Engineering and Applied Science. Since 1968, Jacoby has held positions ranging from astrodynamics teaching assistant to mathematical economics research assistant to orbital systems analyst.
Mr. Jacoby received his master of science in engineering, aeronautics and astronautics from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1969. In 1965, Jacoby earned his bachelor of arts degree from the University of California, Los Angeles. He is a member of the Planetary Society and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and has been published in the Journal of Astronautical Sciences and Celestial Mechanics.
