/24-7PressRelease/ - DARDENNE PRAIRIE, MO, January 18, 2008 - Network 1 has announced that the company plans to build wireless networks across the St. Louis region, beginning with the O'Fallon Wireless project currently underway.
Network 1 launched the O'Fallon Wireless network on the north side of O'Fallon, Missouri (north of Highway 70) on Oct. 19, 2007. Phase 2 of the wireless project is scheduled to go live south of Interstate Highway 70 in O'Fallon on Feb. 1, 2008.
While Network 1 undertook the building of the wireless infrastructure, they recognized that powering the various components, typically located on light posts, would be key in getting the network up and running.
Network 1 Vice President Mark O'Neal said, "AmerenUE has embraced the concept of helping to make our area 'wireless,' and they agreed to provide the power to the components in the system that make this network possible.
"AmerenUE recognized the importance of the installation of this technology, and the company wanted to facilitate the process knowing that powering the components with a consistent, steady power source can be a major obstacle. Their desire was to remove that obstacle, making this launch and operation possible," O'Neal added.
With Ameren's help, Network 1 is furthering the mission of providing residents and visitors the ability to access the Internet from any home, business or public area within the city of O'Fallon at affordable rates. O'Fallon, Missouri is the first municipality in the area, and among the first in the country, to implement a wireless network. Since its launch in October, 2007, it has attracted the attention of municipalities from across the country.
O'Fallon Wireless, powered by Network 1, was created to provide a cost-efficient alternative to the residents and businesses of O'Fallon. The Network 1 management team has been in the communications and technology industry for over 15 years, and its engineers and executive management staff members have worked for some of the largest telecom companies in the world. O'Fallon Wireless, powered by Network 1, combines an easy to install, low cost service with high quality proven technology.
