Officials hope to open a link between the Montour Trail and the airport by late fall or early spring. The new bike trail will start at a five-way intersection near the trail's Enlow Tunnel and will follow portions of old Route 978 and Clinton Road to a former airport construction access road that runs directly into the terminal complex. The project has been in development since 1999, but planning was put on hold after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, because of security concerns. But now the project is back on and excitement is building around Pittsburgh in anticipation for the opening of the link.
