New Californian wine brand 'Saturday Red' launches in the UK
Saturday Red is a new entry level brand which is aims to be fun, unpretentious and approachable and is already proving to have strong consumer appeal. It will be on promotion in the Co-op on a nationwide basis from Monday 5th March, retailing at 2.99.

A Syrah blend with a touch of Zinfandel, Saturday Red Winemaker's Choice is competitively priced and aims to be fun, unpretentious and approachable to a broad target audience.

Destined for the Off-Trade, with bold red graphics, 'wooden box' styling and a memorable name, Saturday Red has strong consumer appeal and great shelf impact. It represents genuine value for money at RRP 5.99 a bottle (on promotion at the Co-op from 5 to 25 March at 2.99).

Saturday Red takes its name from an age-old Italian tradition whereby the townspeople would line the streets to their local winery on a Saturday, with a jug in hand ... anticipating a sample of the winemaker's latest blend. Family and friends would relish these wines later that evening and throughout the week, until the next Saturday when the charming custom would begin once again.

Based on the latest statistics from AC Nielsen, Californian wine is currently growing at 12% in the UK Off-Trade (MAT Sep 2006) and Global Wine Group CEO, Jeff Hansen, is confident about the brand's future:

"With a strong Italian heritage, Saturday Red is especially close to my heart. Initial sales have surpassed all expectations and worldwide sales are projected to exceed 100,000 cases in the first 12 months"
