/24-7PressRelease.com/ - Recent figures announced in Beijing dramatically highlight the development of bilateral trade between the EU and China. In the first eight months of 2004, China-EU trade hit $111.64 billion – an increase of 36% in a year. The EU is now the fourth largest investor in China, behind Hong Kong, the USA and Japan.

EU companies are turning to China for machinery, electronic equipment, textiles, automobile parts and raw materials. However, the signs are that trade with China will steadily increase over the coming years and European based businesses are trying to get their feet in the door early.

However, many ventures in China are failing. “I went as part of a trade mission in 2003 looking to establish links with air conditioning parts manufacturers,” reflects Gerry Anderson, a UK based entrepreneur. “The trip was valuable but I did not get what I went for. After talking to some of the other businessmen I went with, I realised I had done absolutely no research on China and its business practices. I had made a huge mistake by not establishing an intermediary contact in China to work with me.”

Gerry Anderson is a typical example of many business personnel hoping to establish business links in China but not appreciating how business is conducted abroad. Recognising this fact, a UK based cross cultural communications company, Kwintessential, are now offering a training course that offers advice on how to do business in China.

Kwintessential’s Director, Neil Payne, is positive such courses are now an integral part of business success abroad. “The feedback from clients returning from China has been really positive. Many were sceptical as to whether our course could really make any difference, yet they are coming back from China saying they felt more confident and aware of how to work with the Chinese”

The cross cultural training course is aimed at a diverse range of clients, tailoring its content to meet the needs of investors, entrepreneurs, managers and diplomatic staff. It covers areas such as finding intermediaries, building relationships, business etiquette, man-management and negotiations. All of which are intended to help promote better cross cultural communication and ultimately lead to stronger business relationships.

Kwintessential’s course highlights the new challenges intercontinental markets are introducing to businesses and business people who wish to succeed on the international stage.
