New Director of Program Services Announced at Boys & Girls Club

Omar Zapata promoted from director of school-based programs



    OXNARD, CA, November 13, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme has promoted Omar Zapata to Director of Program Services. He takes over for Erin Antrim, who was recently named the Club's new Chief Executive Officer. In his new role, Omar primarily will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing all BGCOP departments.

"We are very excited to have Omar in this new position," said Erin Antrim, BGCOP Chief Executive Officer. "He continues to demonstrate great mentoring and leadership with our youth, program staff, collaborative partners and community members. He brings a great deal of experience to this position and we know he will help the Club excel."

Omar joined the Club in the fall of 2007, bringing with him experience as a youth-at-risk counselor for the city of Ventura Parks and Recreation, social worker and administrator for foster care group home adolescents. He has worked in public service for more than 20 years.

At BGCOP, he started as a coordinator for the Club's Afterschool Programs, then transferred to the Youth Empowerment Program (YEP) as an in-school academic and career advisor case manager. He was later promoted to director of school-based programs, where his responsibilities included program management of a staff of over 100 employees at two school districts.

He received his bachelor's degree in sociology and master's degree in counseling psychology with an emphasis in marital family therapy from California State University, Northridge.
