New Jersey Plastic Surgeon Offers Remarkable Tattoo Removal Option

Dr. Evan S. Sorokin, a New Jersey plastic surgery specialist, now offers an innovative new treatment in laser tattoo removal with the PicoSure aesthetic laser. The advanced patented technology is designed to require fewer, shorter treatments.

CHERRY HILL, NJ, August 18, 2013 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The New Jersey plastic surgery practice of Dr. Evan Sorokin, Delaware Valley Plastic Surgery, is the first practice in South Jersey to offer the latest innovation in laser tattoo removal. The system is the PicoSure aesthetic laser, named for its advanced picosecond laser technology that is designed to produce more effective tattoo removal in fewer treatment sessions.

Dr. Sorokin, a board-certified plastic surgeon who has been in private practice since 2003, offers PicoSure for tattoo removal at his Cherry Hill, N.J. practice.

"We've been doing laser tattoo removal in the Delaware Valley for many years," Dr. Sorokin says. "With the recent addition of PicoSure, we're taking a huge leap forward."

PicoSure is manufactured by Cynosure, a top producer of aesthetic lasers. The device uses Cynosure's proprietary PressureWave technology, which relies on a photomechanical action that uses focused light to fragment tattoo ink into very small particles. The body then processes and eliminates the ink.

"For the past decade or so, the standard in laser tattoo removal has been nanosecond laser technology," Dr. Sorokin says. "Nanosecond lasers break down the ink of the tattoo into small particles, but they do it differently, using photothermal mechanisms."

PicoSure's picosecond technology breaks the ink down into much smaller particles than nanosecond lasers, allowing the body to remove the ink with greater ease.

"It's like granulated sugar verses fine powdered sugar," Dr. Sorokin says. "Add water to both, and the powdered sugar dissolves much faster."

This efficiency means PicoSure has several advantages over nanosecond lasers. It can more effectively remove tattoos with less discomfort and in fewer treatment sessions that require less time. It also often includes a shorter recovery.

The FDA-cleared system has been proven safe and effective in clinical trials. According to Cynosure, 2 different studies demonstrated the efficacy of PicoSure. In one study, more than 80% of tattoos were removed over a 2-week period, and researchers observed an average of 94% removal of blue and green ink, which tend to be more difficult colors to remove. Another study demonstrated that 75% of patients experienced a removal of more than 75% of tattoo pigment after only 3 to 4 treatments.

The PicoSure is one of several laser services Dr. Sorokin offers at his medical spa, which serves surrounding New Jersey and Philadelphia. He says he's been extremely impressed by its efficiency.

"With the nanosecond lasers, a full treatment required an average of 15 to 20 sessions," Dr. Sorokin says. "PicoSure reduces the number of treatment sessions to an average of 5 or 6 -- sometimes fewer."
