/24-7PressRelease/ - MIAMI, FL, March 28, 2008 — The current popularity of tattoos shows no signs of slowing. In fact, a report issued last month by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press estimates that 50% of young people aged 18-25 have tattoos. If recent trends hold, nearly half those young men and women will eventually be researching tattoo removal, many here in the Miami - Fort Lauderdale area.

Modifying one's appearance as a form of self-expression is nothing new. Indeed, tattoos are an ancient form of body art dating back thousands of years. But while tattoos in bygone times were most often viewed as permanent marks of spirituality, bravery, status and other generally positive characteristics, today many people feel otherwise about their tattoos. Thousands now want to erase the visible evidence of a youthful whim, a romantic relationship that didn't last or even gang membership.

Until recently, the options for tattoo removal in Miami and Fort Lauderdale were only somewhat effective, such as dermabrasion, and/or painful and drastic, such as excision and skin grafts. With the advent of new laser technology, particularly the MedLite C6 Series laser available at the South Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery, people can now have their tattoos removed virtually completely in a procedure that's safe and comfortable.

The MedLite C6 Series laser is what's known as a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser. This technology has been shown by the National Institutes of Health to effectively remove a wide range of ink colors with a low incidence of scarring and skin pigment changes. "Our MedLite laser represents a huge leap forward over older methods of treating tattoos, and even over other Q-switched lasers," said Tess Jahnke, President of the South Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery. "With various hand pieces it treats even the most stubborn ink colors, and it rarely causes the adverse effects some other lasers can produce."

Laser tattoo removal works by breaking down the ink within the skin so it can be harmlessly absorbed by the body. At the South Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery, many patients watch their tattoos virtually disappear in just a few affordable treatment sessions.
