Ed Balls, commenting on the announcement said: "[This] announcement will bring help to more victims nationwide while also sending a further warning that these illegal and unacceptable practices will not be tolerated".
Loan sharks have been a social problem that a multi-racial Britain has been trying to fight for long. Loan Sharks are people or groups of people who illegally provide loans at outrageous rates of interest to certain segments of the society who would have trouble obtaining loans from any other sources. Almost a figure of low-brow Brit pop-culture, they have become the subject of books, films and television shows.
The new national scheme aims to educate people on personal finance matters by giving them a chance to compare the different loan deals available in the UK. It plans to provide information to those people whose financial health has been adversely affected by loan sharks. Additionally, it intends to promote financial inclusion for the disabled sections of society.
