GREENWOOD VILLAGE, CO, October 07, 2009
/24-7PressRelease/ -- Revision Optics is nearing entry of an FDA study on a new lens design, the Presbylens, which is a small plastic lens that is implanted into the cornea to improve near vision. For millions of people who suffer from aging of the eyes, or presbyopia, this could provide a benefit. Results of a study in Mexico were presented during this meeting in Newport Beach, California where potential investigators met to discuss and be trained on this new technology.
Most patients were able to see 20/20 at distance and do near tasks including reading without the need for reading glasses. FDA approval has not yet been received to begin this study.
The reversibility of the implant as a "permanent but removable" contact lens is a major benefit of this over other technologies. CE mark has recently been achieved and doctors in Europe will soon begin implanting the device. Dr. Jon Dishler was chosen as one of the investigators and he is located in the Denver, Colorado area. He can be contacted on his website at http://www.dishler.com.
