New Year's Resolutions that are Heart Healthy

Cardiovascular Interventions offers five simple solutions to make 2015 a happy and healthy year

ORLANDO, FL, January 10, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The New Year provides an opportunity for a new beginning, to set goals and to make resolutions that ensure 2015 will be the best year yet. The physicians at Cardiovascular Interventions (CVI), a cardiac state-of-the-art facility based in Orlando, want to provide a list of heart healthy goals that one can include in their resolutions this year in order to ensure a better quality of life.

Dr. Pradip Jamnadas, founder and Medical Director of CVI, said, "Many people overindulge during the holiday season, which makes now the right time to establish resolutions that can lead to a lifetime of better health and fitness. We encourage everyone to take advantage of the New Year to set realistic and incremental changes into their lifestyle."

The physicians at CVI offer the following tips to be healthy during the New Year:
1. Be Active - Even though we all have busy schedules, CVI recommends at least 30 minutes a day for exercise. This can include running, strength training, biking, swimming... the options are limitless. Just find something you enjoy and then begin to find a variety of activities to mix it up.
2. Smaller Portions - Restaurants serve portions that are significantly larger than a generation ago, as well as far beyond the daily recommended caloric and sodium intake. Cut your entrees in half and save the rest for lunch the next day. Not only will you lose weight, you'll save money!
3. Choose the Right Foods - Reduce your sodium consumption and increase your antioxidants. Sodium can most often be found in processed foods, while antioxidants are plentiful in pomegranates, coffee and even chocolate.
4. Get plenty of sleep - Not getting enough sleep can have a significant impact on your health, such as deprivation, which can contribute to weight gain, cause brain fog and lower immunity, making you more vulnerable to sickness. According to the National Sleep Foundation, that means you should aim for 7-9 hours per night.
5. Get Smart -Educate yourself by talking to your doctor about your individual risk of heart disease. Schedule your next routine exam and bring a few of these things with you that can indicate how likely you are to develop heart disease: family history of heart disease or stroke, prior results of blood pressure tests, food diary and your normal exercise routine

The CVI team also recommends making healthy choices to improve your health such as a regular checkup that includes blood pressure and cholesterol check. And based on your results, solidify a plan to kick off the New Year with a proactive, heart healthy management program.

CVI's 12,000 sq. ft. facility houses a variety of state-of-the-art technology advancements and equipment that aid in the diagnosis treatment of both cardiac and peripheral vascular conditions and assists in developing the most sophisticated and comprehensive treatment plans.
