NEW YORK, NY, February 11, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The New York Police Department is conducting a New York police brutality probe against four officers in the Bronx after a video showed them "pummeling and kicking" a drug suspect, reported the New York Post (2/1/2012).

The video titled "These Cops In The Bronx, NY Are Out Of Control!" was available for viewing by New York civil rights violation lawyers on the website WorldStarHipHop. A bystander shot the video on a cell phone, reported The Wall Street Journal (2/1/2012).

"Allegations of improper conduct by the police are not always investigated due to a lack of evidence. Video footage can be a serious game-changer," said New York civil rights violation lawyer David Perecman.

The video shows Jatiek Reed, 19, being wrestled to the sidewalk by officers. The four officers then "repeatedly strike him with their batons and kick him," according to The New York Times (2/1/2012).

After the incident of alleged excessive force by police officers, Reed apparently looked like a victim of police brutality. His mother said her son was left "black and blue," reported the New York Post.

The officers allege Reed "resisted handcuffs, and punched and head-butted one of the officers," reported the New York Daily News (2/1/2012). Reportedly, officers also saw Reed trying to discard drugs before the video began.

"Police officers are only permitted to use force in proportion to the immediate situation and the threat posed by another person," said New York civil rights violation lawyer Perecman, founder of The Perecman Firm, one of New York's civil rights violation law firms.

The Bronx district attorney's office confirmed an investigation into the allegations of excessive force by police officers, reported the NYDN (1/31/2012).

"A picture can be worth 1000 words. A video may be worth many more," said New York civil rights violation lawyer Perecman.
